Who this policy covers

This policy covers the SignalPilot Android and iPhone applications and the SignalPilot support website. SignalPilot is the product named in its Google Play and App Store listings.

Data the app accesses

• Precise or approximate location when you update the map, find mapped communications sites, or record a route.
• Cellular and device network information, including carrier, radio technology, signal measurements, radio cell identifiers, bands, channels, and nearby-cell information when the operating system exposes it.
• Network performance information, including download and upload speed, latency, jitter, loaded latency, connection type, test time, and transferred bytes.
• Local route and history records that you deliberately create or retain in the app.

How data is used

SignalPilot uses this information to explain connection quality, display radio diagnostics, run performance tests, locate community-mapped infrastructure, create private coverage maps, compare saved tests and routes, and export reports at your request.

Local storage and backups

Test history, route points, radio observations, privacy preferences, and queued contributions are stored in the app’s private local storage. Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer are disabled for SignalPilot data. You can delete saved tests and routes from inside the app. Uninstalling the app removes its local data, subject to the operating system’s normal behavior.

Network services and third parties

The app sends ordinary network requests to provide specific features:

• Map tiles and tower lookup: visible map areas and tower-search areas are requested from the configured map provider and OpenStreetMap/Overpass services. Those services receive the IP address and request metadata needed to respond.
• Network tests: SignalPilot’s test service receives short download and upload transfer requests and the IP address needed to deliver them. The transferred test payload is synthetic and is not retained as user content.
• Directions and exports: only when you choose them, SignalPilot opens another installed app or the Android/iOS share sheet.

SignalPilot contains no advertising SDK and does not sell personal information.

Optional community contribution

Community contribution is unavailable unless a SignalPilot service is configured. When available, it is off by default and requires an affirmative opt-in. Eligible measurements are delayed, rounded into coarse geographic cells, stripped of direct account information, and filtered to remove likely repeated home or work clusters when Home Guard is enabled. The public coverage service publishes aggregates only after a minimum number of distinct anonymous contributors is met.

Permissions and your choices

Location and phone-state permissions enable core cellular diagnostics and mapping. SignalPilot requests them after presenting an in-app explanation. The app does not request background location. You can deny or revoke permissions in system settings, use network testing without recording a route, keep contribution disabled, export selected records, or delete local history.

Retention, children, and security

Local records remain until you delete them or uninstall the app. Production community services retain only privacy-coarsened records under their published operational retention rules. SignalPilot is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Data sent to production services uses HTTPS, and local app storage is protected by the operating system’s application sandbox.
